Background Story
Erica Hartin is an English born Australian artist based in Melbourne. With a life-long love of impressionist painters and inspired by Aboriginal art and its artists, Erica creates acrylic based dot paintings of celestial bodies caught by NASA telescopes of our solar system. Erica aims to incorporate the energy, movement, depth and colour into her art, which depicts nebulas, supernovas and constellations from NASA photos of the universe published on the web.
“Over the years I have often looked through NASA photos of our universe and marvelled at the technology behind the images, as much as the beauty of our universe they depict. I try to ensure I source my inspiration from images published by NASA, so I know I am using original photos and not an artists’ interpretation.”
“I admire the complexity, detail and colours. ‘Inspired’ was my first serious attempt at interpreting these celestial wonders. I have chosen to develop my skills in the pointilist style and depicting ‘my story’ by using the NASA photos of the universe, and particularly Hubble, as my source of inspiration.”
